Job purpose

The Director of Educational Outreach is responsible for developing and implementing public educational programming for the theater; maintaining meaningful relationships with local schools and students; supporting fundraising efforts for education programs; and working closely with the Team on strategic planning of future projects.

Duties and responsibilities

The Director of Educational Outreach:

  • Works with Team to develop an Educational mission statement for the theater

  • Cultivates relationships with local schools, arts, and community organizations to develop educational programming that supports Kingfisher’s mission and community needs

  • Coordinates the creation and distribution of promotional and curricular materials for educational programs

  • Develops curriculum for educational programs, such as residencies, workshops, student performances, and professional development opportunities

  • With literary manager, helps facilitate pre- or post-show audience discussions

  • Responsible for the overall curating, planning, scheduling and budgeting of Educational Programs

  • Identifies, contracts with, and trains (when appropriate) Teaching Artists

  • Seeks out and writes grants to support the program

Qualifications

Qualifications include:

  • Minimum B.A., M.A or Ph.D. preferred (Theatre or related field); Teacher certification a plus

  • Ability to develop programming around Common Core standards

  • Understanding of how to work with directors, actors, designers and other production staff

  • Ability to work with school administrators, teachers, and students

  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Office

  • Experience in social media

Working conditions

There are no special working conditions or hours for this position, though some work may need to be done during days/times when school classes are in session,

Ability to work remotely.

Access to a computer, e-mail, Word, and Excel.

Facility with Google Drive.

Physical requirements

There are no specific requirements for this job. However, visits to schools/colleges would be helpful.

The Kingfisher Theater's mission has four goals: One: To develop a resident company focused on performing world classics in Rochester. Two: To utilize this vigorous and stimulating creative environment to cultivate new works inspired by classics. Three: To establish a physical, brick-and-mortar venue located in the City of Rochester. Four: To support the development of emerging artists and works by facilitating productions, training, publications, and tours in other markets.

Description

The Kingfisher Theater is a resident professional acting company in Rochester, NY. Our goal is to employ a company of full-time professional actors and to produce 6 yearly professional classical and classicly inspired plays to the general public.

In time, we would like to develop a conservatory to share the knowledge of the world theatrical cannon with the Rochester area, and to foster new develpment in the theater.

The Kingfisher Theater, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation.
