Do you enjoy working with youth? Do you like the role of mentor, or teacher? And do you have an interest in either helping our youth learn about our justice program, have an interest in law, or an interest in civics? Then this might be the perfect opportunity for you!

Waukesha County operates a Teen Court- an alternate justice program for youth offenders based on the restorative justice model. In this court, teens who have commited offenses plead guilty, and then present their case to a jury of their peers. Other teens take on the role of prosecutor, defender, clerk of courts, jury foreman, and jury. The jury decides the consequences. We have been operating this program for over 10 years with a lot of success. The teens themselves are less likely to reoffend, they have a great opportunity for education, and they learn about the consequences of their actions.

We have a great team that have kept out Teen Court going strong for many years. And now we are seeking additional volunteer assistance to make it even more successful! Overall, volunteers main task is to help the court process run smoothly. Main tasks include checking in teens as they arrive; help prepare teens for their roles which may include helping to create opening and closing arguments; and help answer questions to participants and guide them through the process. The program supervisor will always be on hand to answer questions.

We are seeking a responsible volunteer dedicated and committed to this process. Teen Court meets twice monthly throughout the majority of the year, and monthly in the summer and December. Shifts are on specific Thursdays from 4:45-7:00. We ask for minimally one shift per month.
