Position Overview: This is an opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of adults whose limited computer literacy is a challenge in their everyday life. The purpose of the 1-on-1 Colfax Library technology tutoring is to allow individuals to improve their computer skills and increase their knowledge of modern technology in a safe and casual environment that is geared specifically towards their needs and goals. The 1-on-1 tutoring aims to help each learner achieve small steps towards technology independence and competence.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan 1-on-1 tutoring lessons on specific computer & technology topics (based on the devices, needs, and goals of your learners each week)
  • Lead weekly 1-on-1 tutoring sessions at the Colfax Library during a two-hour block (usually means tutoring two individuals for one hour each)
  • Track learner participation by submitting weekly sign-in sheets with learner names and demographic information
  • Attend training and coordinate with literacy staff to better aid your learners

Qualifications:

  • Must have a strong knowledge of basic technology and computer skills, including, but not limited to: Microsoft Office, E-mail basics, Internet basics, Google applications (Gmail, Google Drive), iPhones, iPads, Mac laptops, PC laptops, and Android devices
  • Must possess dependability, flexibility, patience, and excellent oral communication skills
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English proficiently and clearly
  • Livescan Fingerprint clearance is required
  • Age 18 or older
  • Teaching or tutoring experience a plus, but not required

Training Provided:

  • 1-on-1 Training Session on Computer Class Protocols
  • Sample lesson plans provided free of charge
  • Individual assistance from literacy staff is available
