Position Description:

Dress for Success New Orleans is seeking a part-time (about 10 hrs/week) intern to assist with the planning and execution of our fall Fashion Gala. This position will provide experience with special event planning, marketing, assisting with silent auction donations and set up, communicating with sponsors and guests, and organizing event logistics.

The Special Events Intern will work directly with and report to the President of the Board of Directors.

Specific Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist with fundraising, planning and logistics for upcoming fundraising luncheon.
  • Assist in marketing efforts to promote event including paper mailers, eblasts, social media and web advertisements
  • Soliciting in-kind donations for thesilent auction
  • Recruitment and management of volunteers
  • Draft and send communication to attendees and sponsors before and after event
  • Database management
  • Other administrative duties as assigned by the Board President
  • Attend occasional special event committee meetings and special events (when possible)

Qualifications:

  • Experience or interest in event marketing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Must be able to manage projects with goals and deadlines
  • Enthusiasm to learn and a team player
  • Proficient with e-mail, Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher and social media outlets
  • Ability to work some weekend and evening hours
  • Must have own reliable transportation, to be able to pick up and drop off large items for silent auction

Salary: Unpaid Internship

Founded in New York City in 1997, Dress for Success is an international not-for-profit organization offering services designed to help our clients find jobs and remain employed. Our programming includes our Suiting program for interviews and employment, our Career Center and the Professional Women's Group for employed clients to network, focus on job retention, continue skill building and goal setting. Dress for Success New Orleans serves clients by referral only. Our clients come to us from a continually expanding and diverse group of non-profit and government agencies including homeless shelters, job training programs, educational institutions and domestic violence shelters, among many other organizations. Almost 60 local organizations throughout the region send women to Dress for Success New Orleans for professional attire and career development services.
