Looking for muralists to volunteer their time in order to create calming landscape murals in four "Sensory Space" rooms at the Rice Child & Family Center!

The Daniel F. and Ada L. Rice Child + Family Center (Rice Center) provides a therapeutic setting for young children with severe mental health and behavior challenges, the marjority of whom have spent a large portion of their lives in foster care. The therapeutic residential center’s serves children ages six to 14 with the focus on helping children and families stabilize, gain skills and work towards a goal of transitioning to a home environment. Programming at the Rice Center take a holistic treatment approach designed to treat and transition youth back to a family setting. Residents and families receive a range of therapeutic services designed to address their emotional and behavioral challenges while providing a supportive environment that encourages personal growth.

In creating a therapeutic environment, the Rice Center hopes to build "Sensory Spaces" on each living unit for the children to use when they are overstimulated, upset or needing a safe spot to recenter.

We are searching for muralist volunteers who can (individually or in a group) create and paint landscape paintings on the walls of these rooms to create a less clinical and more calming setting. Our clinical staff are happy to have volunteers create their own art pieces for this opportunity.

Ideally volunteers will:
- Be experienced artists with knowledge about painting murals and the ability to create this artwork

- Be available between 9am and 5pm on weekdays (it is possible that staff can be somewhat flexible about these hours, or if this opportunity is taken by a large group this could take place primarily on one weekend day if preferred)

- This opportunity could be completed by a group working together or an individual muralist. Because these rooms are relatively large, this opportunity would probably be longer-term if done by a single individual.
