About Ten Thousand Villages Oak Park

Location:

121 N Marion, Oak Park, IL 60301, US

Mission Statement

Ten Thousand Villages Oak Park is a non-profit, fair-trade retailer that supports marginalized artisans in developing countries by selling their products in the developed world. Unlike a conventional retailer, we guarantee the artisans with whom we work fair-wages and compensation for their labor. Many of our artisans are educating the first generation of their families and joining the middle class in their home countries thanks to our work! Currently we work with artisan groups in 36 different countries around the world. Among other things, our store offers home decor products, jewelry, scarves, dishware, musical instruments, coffee and tea

Description

Our work would not be possible without the help of a large staff of volunteers, who handle every aspect of our business, from bookkeeping to customer service to marketing and promotion. However, our greatest needs are for sales associates and merchandise handlers.

As a home decor and personal accessoroes store we are constantly receiving new inventory. Personable, reliable people who enjoy meeting customers and getting the first look at new products can always find a home here!

In appreciation of our volunteers donation of time we offer a 20% discount on in-store purchses, as well as initial and ongoing skills-based training. We hold quarterly appreciation events to enable our capable, generous volunteers to meet and socialize with one another. Our store is particularly lively and busy during the holiday season.
