Are you looking for a volunteer opportunity, but don't know exactly what you want to do? Do you want to make a difference in the lives of other people, but don't know how to start? Well look no further.
At Heartland Hospice you can positively change someone's existence who is nearing the end of his/her life. Just your presence, compassion and deep listening can enrich the quality of their existence. As a Vigil Volunteer you would provide outreach to our patients and their families during the final hours of the their loved one's life. Vigil Volunteers provide a comforting presence and emotional/spiritual support so that patients do not die not alone.
Training for this opportunity is provided and assignment of patients is determined by patient need and volunteer availability. As your journey unfolds, we'll support you with personalized mentoring and cultivation of your hospice experiences.
Opportunities to serve are available in Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Howard and Harford Counties. Shifts for sitting vigil are available for the daytime, evening or overnight and can be matched with your personal schedule.

The mission of Heartland Hospice is to provide quality hospice care to patientse with a limited life expectancy, as well as support to their caregivers. The quality of life for those we serve is enhanced through specialized supportive care designed to meet the needs of the body, mind and spirit. Care is provided by an interdisciplinary team consisting of the Medical Director, Registered Nurse, Health Aide, Social Worker,Chaplain and Volunteers. Heartland Hospice strives to provide care to all who are eligible and need hospice care regardless of ability to pay.
Volunteers offer services in both our office setting and in the field directly engaging with patients and families.
A multitude of our volunteers provide emotional & spiritual support through friendly visits patients within their homes or care facilities. These volunteers offer compassionate companionship, advocacy and outreach to patients and families through conversation, reading, relief sitting, letter writing, running errands, assistance with hobbies, music enrichment and art and other forms of sensory stimulation. Another volunteer opportunity includes sitting vigil with patients who are actively dying and who have no family present with them.
Volunteers serve in Baltimore City & County, Anne Arundel, Howard and Harford Counties.
