March 25th - Trail Building (10am-2pm)
Trail Building Training will take place on a section of the Lake Hopatcong Trail in Hopatcong Borough (Sussex County). To register for the training, send email to holly@lakehopatcongfoudnation.org. More details will be provided to registrants.
If not properly built, a host of different impacts - particularly the natural flow of water - can erode and damage trails. This day in the field will teach about techniques like side-hilling and drain-building which help ensure that hiking trails remain in peak condition despite the challenges of erosion from nature and regular use. It will also discuss more advanced trail building techniques like turnpiking and bog-bridging to address wet areas.
Volunteers are needed to help build, blaze and maintain this local trail. There will be lots of opportunities to work independently and in small groups through 2016, but we encourage you to register to the NY/NJ Trails Conference Training.
