Are you interested in helping inspire and empower middle school girls to pursue science and math careers? We need your help! We are looking for volunteers to help out at the Expanding Your Horizons Chicago conference on Saturday, March 28th at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).

About the opportunity: EYH Chicago is a one-day conference where 300 middle school girls participate in hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math workshops. It is a fun and exciting event for both the girls and volunteers, and we hope you will help us make this year’s conference a success! More information about the conference can be found on our website at https://eyhchicago.com/

W e will need volunteers from approximately 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (not all volunteer shifts will last all day). Example positions include helping with registration, setting up and assisting workshop leaders, ushering participants (young girls) between locations, distributing lunch, and cleaning up facilities. There will be breakfast, lunch, and a reception with food and refreshments for volunteers at the end of the day.

Volunteers will be expected to attend a mandatory orientation session a couple weeks before the conference at UIC. The dates for training are Monday, March 16, 2020 from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. or Sunday, March 22, 2020 from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m.

Mission Statement

Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) is a one day symposium for middle school girls showing them the exciting and diverse experiences science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers have to offer. We are an entirely volunteer-run and donation-supported organization, so we are always looking for more helping hands. We hope to welcome you aboard!

Description

The Chicago EYH is a career conference specially designed for girls in grades 6 through 8 from local school districts. The conference encourages girls interest in science and mathematics and provides positive female role models in science, math, and engineering careers. Local, often women-lead, organizations volunteer to put on hands-on workshops for the girls. We also provide motivational talks from role models in STEM and career counselers.
