Our House Hostess/Host is the first face of Hospitality House of Charlotte (HHOC) that guests and visitors will see when they arrive at their home away from home. This volunteer needs to be warm, friendly, and helpful while respecting the needs, privacy and burdens or our guests and visitors. There are also many visitors who come to the house for tours or to volunteer their valuable time. We want to ensure that our House Hostess/Host makes everybody feel welcome.

Volunteers for the Hosting shift are needed seven days a week, as well as holidays, because HHOC remains open 365 days a year.

Weekday Shift times are:

9am - 1pm

1pm - 5pm

5pm - 9pm

Weekend Shift time are:

10am - 12pm

12pm - 2pm

2pm - 4pm

Some key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Answer questions that guests, visitors, or volunteer groups may have.
• Utilize various forms of technology to assist staff and guests (i.e. operating our front door access system, using an iPad or computer to give a guest walking or driving direction,).
• Giving tours of the house to visitors and guests.
• Helping to keep our guest space neat and tidy.
• Putting out snack, goodie bags, and other donations for guest to help themselves.

• Must be 18 or older
• Must be willing to make a 6-month minimum commitment to volunteering at least once per month.
• Must consent to a background check
• Comfortable using various forms of technology
• Show kindness to guests who may be in a hurry, concerned about a loved one, and stressed
• Good communication skills (verbal and written)

Training:

Attend a one-time Prospect Volunteer Orientation, complete a background check (paid by HHOC), shadow for a minimum of two shifts with experienced volunteer or until New Volunteer Training Checklist is completed.
