4-H Tech Wizards is a Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County (CCE-BC) mentoring grant from the National Mentoring Program to conduct 4-H Tech Wizards. 4-H Tech Wizards enhances learning by providing exciting, hands-on technology training, delivered in partÂnership with 4-H, collaborating universities, colleges, volunteers, libraries, and other community partners. The goal is to involve youth in exciting STEM projects, gain job skills, improve academic outcomes, and encourage community engagement.
The summer schedule will be announced. Mentors go through an orientation and receive on-going training in mentoring skills. CCE-BC’s 4-H educators will prepare STEM activities for the groups and facilitate the activities. Tech Wizards projects focus on STEM and include such things as robotics, rocketry, drones, cooking, film making, computer programs, GIS/GPS, engineering activities, field trips, and more.
Mentors do not need to have any science, technology, engineering or math specific knowledge. College students, retirees, empty-nesters and community members are encouraged to consider this opportunity.
The 4-H Tech Wizards/National Mentoring Program is sponsored by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, National 4-H Council, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County and Cornell University.
