Individuals will gain hands-on experience working with a small team to plan special events within the zoo. There are two sub-specialties within the special events internship, one is planning private gatherings for groups who rent a space within the zoo. The other side of special events is working with Guest Services in order to plan and produce events happening for all guests within the zoo, including scheduling, working with vendors, and event set-up and breakdown. Interns specializing in rentals and banquets will work alongside the zoo’s Banquet Manager and assist with the many steps involved in event management from advertising to event setup and breakdown. This position offers interns a valuable opportunity to learn about event management that will assist them in both the non-profit and for-profit sectors.

Description
Elmwood Park Zoo was established in 1924 when a local farmer transferred 16 acres and a small menagerie to the Borough of Norristown. Today, the Zoo is owned and operated by the Norristown Zoological Society, a non-profit organization whose mission is to foster an appreciation of wildlife and their habitat that will inspire active participation in conservation. Under the Society’s careful management, Elmwood Park Zoo has attained the elite status as one of only 225 institutions accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
