Bay Area Women Against Rape (BAWAR) is the nation's first rape crisis center (we've recently had our 45th anniversary). We are a non profit that provides services to sexual assault survivors and their families throughout Alameda County.
BAWAR provides counseling services, a 24 hour crisis hotline, support groups, advocacy, support at police reporting and hospital accompaniments as well as trial accompaniament. We have several programs including a Latino program, LBGTQ, Sexually Exploited Minors. Additionally, we provide training for volunteers to provide support for sexual assault survivors.
We are seeking to expand our Board of Directors and want to recruit individuals who want to assist us in program development, outreach, fund development, event planning and more.
We would love board members who have an understanding or backgroud in any of the following: human resources, supervision, legal issues, ethics, law, law enforcement, volunteer appreciation, event planning, budget, accounting, book keeping, health prevention and intervention, website menagement, media outreach, fund development, networking, fund raising, politics, volunteer management, therapy, group therapy, trauma, children, adolescents, adults molested as children, sexual assault, Latino/a culture, LBGTQ community, sexually exploited minors, Spanish speaking, Asian community, having a second language.
