Empty Bowls to Stop Hunger

Empty Bowls is an international grassroots effort to fight hunger. The basic premise is simple: handcrafted bowls are created and donated by artisans and students. Guests are invited to a simple meal of soup, salad, and bread. Included in the price of admission, guests select a handcrafted bowl to keep as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world and in their communities.

North Helpline is proud to have hosted an Empty Bowls with an extensive silent auction and entertainment since 2009, and every year we would not be able to do pull it off without extensive input from the tireless efforts of our dedicated volunteers. We invite you to join us this year to make Empty Bowls 2017 a success.

We need volunteers to help with everything from preparing soup to serving beverages to greeting to retrieving auction items. If you are interested, more detailed volunteer position descriptions will be provided.

About North Helpline

Location:

12736 33rd Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98125, US

Mission Statement

We believe that all deserve adequate food, housing, and respect. We assist our neighbors in obtaining basic needs that affirm their human dignity and worth.

Description

North Helpline is a non-profit organization that was formed in 1989 by concerned citizens, business leaders, service organizations, and local church members who saw their neighbors experiencing difficult times. Recognized by such organizations as the United Way, the Seattle Foundation, the City of Seattle, and the Greater Seattle Council of Churches. North Helpline provides a variety of emergency services to local residents; including a food bank, financial aid to prevent evictions and utility shut-offs, hygiene supplies, diapers and baby food; and referrals to other agencies that help residents get back on their feet.

We distribute food to our neighbors in North Seattle three times a week, keeping over 1,200 individuals fed. Our work would not be possible without the thousands of volunteer hours served here every year.
