The Montessori School of Englewood will be transitioning it's 6th graders into middle school during the 2017-2018 school year. Our Middle School Transition Coordinators will help with this move by working with 6th graders on reading, math, and science in small groups. These small groups will help The Montessori School of Englewood assess how ready our students are and the areas where they need the most help in. We are looking for volunteers to commit to 2-10 hours a week beginning in February or March. We are flexible with volunteer schedules and will do everything we can to make this experience fulfilling, invigorating, and fun!

Mission Statement
The Montessori School of Englewood was started in 2012 with the purpose of helping disadvantaged youth achieve success through education. The idea was to give them a proven method of success, which is the Montessori pedagogy and support systems that would ensure that each youth had the opportunity to achieve success through working together. MSE's mission is to create a learning community where members trust one another to use their Heads, Hearts, and Hands to commit to a life of growth and fulfillment. Staff in each department and at every level embrace a collaborative, integrated philosophy that endeavors to support each child by addressing not only his or her individual needs and the concerns of his or her family, but also the profound needs of the surrounding Englewood community.
Description
We believe that MSE is uniquely positioned to be successful because its model integrates not
only high academic standards but also a rigorous process to measure student achievement. The
academic program at MSE integrates Montessori methodology, national core standards,
assessment, arts integration, and research-based instructional best practices. The result is a
highly-differentiated learning environment that facilitates accelerated learning and achievement
across the curriculum. MSE’s program includes the following key curricular areas: Language
Arts, Mathematics & Geometry, History/Social Science, the Arts, Character and Peace
Education, Health and Physical Education, Practical Life, Social Justice and Technology.
We are proving this model works by the success of the students.
● The CPS School Quality Rating Policy is the District’s policy for measuring annual
school performance. MSE’s SQRP is currently a 2+ rating that makes us the highest rated
non-selective, non-magnet school in our area.
● MSE scored in the 99th percentile in reading growth and was the top-ranked school in all
of Chicago on this metric.
● 62% of MSE students met their growth projections, which is 12% more than the national
norm of 50%.
● 87% of our head start children are meeting language objectives, with 8% exceeding their
goals, a quadrupling of percentages in this domain.
