L.A. Works: L.A. Works is a 501(c)3 nonprofit volunteer action center that creates and implements hands-on community service projects throughout the greater Los Angeles area. Founded in 1991, L.A. Works addresses three principal needs: to increase volunteer participation in the community; to build the capacity of nonprofit organizations to achieve their missions through access to volunteer labor and other resources; and to educate and encourage people to engage in the broader social issues affecting the greater Los Angeles community. BusinessWorks & Days of Service Programs: L.A. Works days of service gather thousands of Angelenos to build the community through a variety of service projects, including neighborhood beautification and literacy improvement. Through these service days, businesses can build their brands and culture while receiving public recognition in event advertising, newsletters, website, and social media. The Corporate and Community Engagement Department’s role in the Days of Service program is to select a nonprofit or school site that can benefit from hundreds of volunteers on a single day (and is appropriate for a large group), plan the projects appropriate for the volunteers, train the leadership for the day, and lead them at the event.
Volunteer Associate Program: The candidate has the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the nonprofit sector, learn about volunteer event planning, identify unmet community needs and participate in advocacy, gain leadership experience and contribute to the BusinessWorks and Days of Service programs. This position is open year-round. Applicants seeking academic credit must make their own arrangements with their host institution in advance. Responsibilities: This role will provide event production support including research, outreach, and in some cases supplies management and logistics. The L.A. Works experience thrives on creative brainstorming and the ability to get it done!
