Scholarship Application Readers needed to select 2017 Scholarship Recipients!

ORGANIZATION: Peninsula College Fund

PCF is a scholarship organization providing financial, mentoring and career support to first-generation college students from the Mid-Peninsula. Our Application Readers play a significant role in helping PCF identify the scholars that have great potential to succeed in college, but just need the investment of a scholarship, a long term mentor, and career/internship support and college success training to get there.

Application Readers individually read and score online applications over a four-week period between the months of February and March. Readers will then meet with their assigned team to discuss the candidates and select their team’s top five applicants to move on to the interview round.

Application Readers are also asked to sit on the interview panel on April 8th and interview their team’s top choices. This is a great opportunity to not only read about these inspiring young people, but meet them face to face and dive deeper into what motivates them to pursue a higher education.

Application readers must be local to the mid-Peninsula in order to serve on a reading team and interview candidates. A 30 minute webinar orientation is also required before beginning the reading process.

About Peninsula College Fund

Location:

Mission Statement

Our mission is to empower low-income, first generation college students to graduate and obtain a job that aligns with their career goals.

Description

Our comprehensive program includes four key components:

Scholarships: Each student receives a scholarship of $3,000/year for all four years of college. Our goal is to provide scholars with the necessary funds to allow them to attend the college that is the best fit academically, financially, and socially.

One-to-One Mentoring: We carefully match each scholar with one caring adult who provides support, counsel, friendship, networking, and positive role modeling to help each student complete college. We provide our mentors with on-going training and continuously evaluate and improve our mentoring program. Our goals are to help fill the gaps in knowledge about the college experience that first-generation college students often experience, and provide the support and example that enable our scholars to overcome the challenges on the path to graduation.

Summer Internships: We identify and develop paid and volunteer summer internships for our scholars. Our goals are to expose our students to different career opportunities, help them network for post-graduation careers, and earn income to assist in financing their education.

College Success Workshops: We provide all students with targeted, in-depth workshops to give them the tools for college completion and career readiness. Our goal is to build knowledge and peer support to prepare scholars in each year of college.
