Thanks to advocacy on the part of SAIL, persons with physical disabilities can now take public transportation, an option that was previously inaccessible.


The Ketchikan office of Southeast Alaska Independent Living is seeking volunteers to particiapte in a pilot program aimed at helping people experiencing disabilities and the eldery apply for social security and social security disability benefits.

Volunteers must:

  • Take a 12 hour training (this is done as a group)
  • Agree to a background check
  • Agree to submit to fingerprinting

After training, volunteers will work to help people who, in many cases, are living in the margins of society due to a variety of factors including but not limited to poverty, incarceration, homeslessness, and disabilities of every color. Volunteers will be working in the trentches to help vulnerable indiviuals meet their most basic needs so that they have the opportunity to strive beyong the scope of their basic needs to reach their full potential.
