NMCEH is looking for Volunteers to help complete the 2017 HUD Point-in-Time Count in Albuquerque!
What is the Point in Time Count?
Every two years, the New Mexi co Coalition to End Homelessness and our member agencies work together to coordinate the Albuquerque Point in Time Count. Our goal is to count the current number of individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Albuquerque, and to learn more about their specific needs. In order to accomplish this goal, staff and volunteers go into soup kitchens, day shelters and directly to the streets in order to find people staying outside.
Why is the Point in Time Count important?
Knowing how many people experience homelessness in Albuquerque helps secure funding for homeless service programs, including annual federal funding for long-term solutions like permanent supportive housing and transitional housing. The Point in Time Count also helps us learn more about the specific individuals and families who are currently experiencing homelessness. With the information collected during the Point in Time Count, we can clearly identify those most in need of supportive housing. We can then effectively connect people to housing and supports that will help them end their experience of homelessness.
What does volunteering involve?
All Point in Time Count volunteer activities are scheduled in advance. Volunteer shifts are held throughout the week of the count. Surveyors are assigned to locations where people experiencing homelessness are likely to be, such as meal sites and day shelters. Each shift will have a Team Leader who is experienced in working with the population we serve to provide guidance and information.

Description
The New Mexico Coalition to End Homelessness was founded in 2000 to lead a comprehensive, coordinated and strategic response to homelessness. Today the Coalition has some 70 member organizations that provide housing and services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness. The Coalition has made significant strides towards its vision of ending homelessness. We have helped develop over 1000 permanent supportive housing beds for people with disabilities who are experiencing homelessness, and as a result have seen a measurable decrease in homelessness among people with disabilities.
