About
You can help and adult learn English this year!
Become an adult literacy tutor by attending 12 hours of training:
May 8, 10, 15, and 17
6:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Volunteers are needed to tutor adults in ESL (English as a Second Language) and Basic Literacy skills. If you are at least 18 years old, can read, write and speak English, we can train you to become a volunteer literacy tutor. No teaching experience or knowledge of a second language is required, and the time commitment is two hours per week after training. Twelve hours of training is required to become a volunteer literacy tutor. Potential tutors attend a one hour orientation, followed by 11 hours of workshop training. Training is offered at different times and locations, and a full schedule is available at http://www.elginliteracy.org/how-to-help/become-a-tutor/tutor-training-schedule. A $25 fee covers the textbook, materials and a background check. Administrative volunteers are also needed for mailings, graphic and web design, community events, event planning, and other special projects. Please contact us at info@elginliteracy.org for more information.
