COSA Volunteer
ORGANIZATION: Winooski Community Justice Center
Please visit the new page to apply.
The Winooski Community Justice Center is looking for volunteers for a Circle of Support and Accountability. As a volunteer in a COSA, you would be working closely with someone returning to the Winooski community from prison (who we call the core member). You would work on a weekly basis to offer mentorship and support to the core member who has expressed the desire to change and a commitment to cause no more harm.
COSA volunteers work with a group of three volunteers and the reentry coordinator with a single core member. Volunteers will receive intensive training, supervision, and support from program staff. The commitment includes an entire calendar year of weekly meetings (approx 1 hr) and often expands to additional optional social and support activities, along with any relevant trainings.

Mission Statement
The mission of the Winooski Community Justice Center is to offer a restorative approach to conflict and crime.
Description
We assist community members with information, referral, and access to other community resources. The Winooski Police Department, through its Community Justice Center, supports active involvement by Winooski citizens in resolving conflict, preventing crime, and providing support to individuals affected by crime. The Winooski Community Justice Center is dedicated to offering restorative approaches to community conflict and crime in Winooski.
At its core, restorative justice is about viewing crime as a harm to people, relationships, and the community. It focuses on meeting the needs of those affected (affected party), and holding the person responsible for the harm (responsible party) accountable for their actions and impact.
