Seattle Office of Emergency Management (OEM) mission is to partner with the community to prepare for, respond to, mitigate the impacts of, and recover from disasters. OEM partners with other City departments, County, State and Federal governments as well as the business community to recover from the aftermath of disasters. The more people on this city-wide team, the stronger we are together. We welcome you to join this effort to educate and engage the Seattle community.
This role provides disaster preparedness public education and outreach to the entire Seattle community in the form of training, presentations, tabling events and special events.
Key Responsibilities:
- Commit to at least 2 emergency preparedness presentations per month or outreach events
- Attend regular volunteer training events (as needed)
- Attend regular volunteer meetings (once per quarter)
- Acceptable understanding and implementation of approved public messaging
- Effective education of diverse populations including but not limited to seniors, low-income, child care providers, youth, workplace, and neighborhood communities
- Independent engagement and outreach and scheduling presentations and tabling events
- Transport preparedness materials and equipment
- Distribute emergency preparedness materials to the community
Qualifications:
- Willingness to support the City of Seattle and the Seattle Office of Emergency Management mission & values
- Ability to display professionalism and excellent communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills - Ability to transport and lift equipment up to 20lbs
- Flexibility of schedule, willingness to volunteer occasional nights and weekends
- Demonstrated experience, interest and/or willingness to work with diverse populations
- Demonstrated experience in public education, training or public speaking
- Valid Driver’s License or WA state-issued identification
- Reliable method of transportation (includes public transportation)
- Punctual and dependable
- Assist with other outreach duties as necessary

Seattle is subject to a variety of hazards ... severe weather, earthquakes, pandemics, large planned events which pose security concerns, etc. The Seattle Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is responsible for developing plans, partnerships, training and exercises to minimize the danger and damage to our community caused by those hazards. OEM does this in partnership with the our community, working with community members, community-based organizations, schools, hospitals, faith-based groups, and many others in preparing themselves. The Seattle Office of Emergency Management partners with other City departments, County, State and Federal governments as well as the business community to recover from the aftermath of disasters.
