Exhibit Shop Assistant: Help create Science Center exhibits!

Cause Areas

It's flexible! We'll work with your schedule.

601 Light StreetBaltimore, MD 21230

Did you know that many of our amazing, hands-on exhibits are created in the basement of the Maryland Science Center? We can usually use extra hands, as our shop is almost always busy. No experience is necessary to assist in the exhibit shop.

This opportunity is suitable for individuals age 18 or older, or possibly even groups of volunteers looking for a one-day project. (Groups, please keep in mind there is no guarantee a job will be available when you are.)

  • Help keep the shop clean and organized
  • Perform finishing tasks as needed: sanding, filling, painting and clear coating
  • Simple exhibit updates such as replacing screws, graphics, etc.
Required Skills:
  • Some experience with hands-on, detail-oriented work, whether it’s art, woodworking, cake-making, or gardening
  • Eagerness to get your hands dirty and learn
  • Shop orientation and project guidelines provided by Exhibit Fabrication team
  • For individual volunteers, opportunities usually occur Monday-Friday, 9 AM-5 PM. At least one 4-hour shift is required per month, for a minimum of three months (though we'd love it if you could help for longer than three months). Group volunteering is considered on a case-by-case basis; there's not always a job available when the group is!

Please visit marylandsciencecenter.org for further information and application forms. All volunteers must submit an application, and volunteer appointments are by interview only. All applicants (over the age of 18) must complete a background check and orientation session, prior to volunteering.
