Every year from September through December bird of prey enthusiasts gather at Hitchcock Nature Center to be a part of the annual Hitchcock HawkWatch. These birders staff our observation tower daily throughout the raptor migration season to view these majestic birds and record data that is vital to our understanding of raptors throughout the country. Join these dedicated volunteers!
On the job training is provided, all you need is enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. A background in birding is helpful but not necessary, we will teach you everything you need to know. Volunteers are asked to provide their own binoculars or other equipment. Volunteering with the HawkWatch does include exposure to the elements & as volunteers are outside during the winter season. The ability to climb stairs is also necessary as the HawkWatch volunteers climb our 45' observation tower daily.
