Rays of Lights is a non-profit organization in which we provide free respite care for families with special needs children. Our program is very dependent on volunteers who help us take care of the children on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Friday of the month(excluding the month of January and July). There are three sites you can choose to volunteer at, Lovers Lane United Methodist Church which occurs the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Friday of the month, at White Rock United Methodist Church that will occur on the 1st Friday of the month, and Christ Foundry United Methodist Mission which occurs the 3rd Friday of the month. There is a volunteer application they have to fill out in order for them to volunteer with us before you attend your first Night lights event. We provide dinner from 5:30 pm to 6:00 pm for our volunteers and at 6:00 pm the children begin to arrive. You will be paired with a special needs child or a sibling for the night you will enjoy activities with them such as gym, computer lab, games, puzzles, books, Xbox, crafts, movies and some form of live entertainment. At every Night Lights event, there is nursing staff as well as an off-duty Dallas Police Officer who is there to ensure the safety of all of the children. Rays of Light, a Texas 501(c)(3) corporation, is dedicated to providing free, quality respite care to families with children with special needs, across the spectrum, in the Dallas metropolitan area. Together with our volunteers, we strive to lend support and relief to these families through our respite care program called Night Lights.
Description
With our volunteers, nurses, and off-duty Dallas police office, Rays of Light offers parents a safe haven for their children to enjoy a special evening while they enjoy a night out. The children have the opportunity to just be kids in a loving and nurturing environment. Each Night Lights include live entertainment, arts & crafts, a movie theater setting, a game room, computer room, gym, and therapy dogs. Every Friday evening starts with a magician, face painter, juggler, or a petting zoo!
