Mission Statement
Tree House Books is on a mission to grow and sustain a community of readers, writers, and thinkers in Philadelphia.
Description
Tree House Books is a Literacy Center and Giving Library based in North Philadelphia serving children and their families in building literacy skills. What makes us unique is that our programs move beyond strictly academics to include a social, emotional, and cultural focus. In addition to providing access to a wide variety of books, we foster healthy attitudes towards reading and writing and help our participants expand their self-concept through awareness of the opportunities reading provides. We also engage the community in holistic literacy activities that reflect our community’s rich ethnic, racial, and cultural heritage, giving us all as readers time and space to examine issues we find relevant to our lives.
At Tree House books we do two things: provide access to high-quality books through our donation based Giving Library and family literacy programming for children ages 0-16 with a focus on language acquisition, recreational reading, critical thinking, and creative writing. We have recently launched our Books in Every Home Campaign, in which we have set an ambitious goal to distribute over 200,000 books by 2020!
