AHRC NassauDay Habilitation Program115 East Bethpage RoadPlainview, NY 11803

AHRC Nassau is a non-profit agency which serves the developmentally and intellectually disabled. AHRC Nassau has existed for nearly 70 years and is a leader in the care and service of this population. Currently we are looking for volunteers to assist with our community based day habilitation program. We have 33 "hubsites" located throughout Nassau County and are looking for volunteers who would be available sometime Monday through Friday starting from 8am to 3pm. Day Habilitation Volunteers assist our program by engaging the people that we serve in meaningful activities. These activities could include arts & crafts, computer skills, reading groups, photography clubs, cooking lessons, yoga or light aerobics, music, pet therapy or any other passion that a volunteer may want to share with the people at one of our hubsites.

The minimum age to volunteer at one of our hubsites is 16 years old and all volunteers are required to complete an application and meet with the volunteer coordinator for training and orientation. OPWDD (the Office of People with Developmental Disabilities) requires that all day habilitation volunteers be screened for tuberculosis and receive a full criminal background check. The cost for the screening and background check are covered by AHRC Nassau.
