ORGANIZATION: Central Arizona Shelter Services (CASS)

Job Summary: The Development Intern is responsible for assisting the Development Team in process improvements for donor and community cultivation.

Essential Functions:

Development Reporting and Research

  1. Research new fundraising opportunities geared towards a younger demographic of supporters
  2. Grant research, writing, and reporting
  3. Review and update outcome measures when appropriate

Communications and Marketing

    1. Create an archive of historical media and communications with a user-friendly search directory for the organization
    2. Create a standing annual social media calendar with appropriate messaging suggestions based on timing and needs of organization
    3. Collect and organize client stories to be used for marketing and communicating success

Volunteer & In-Kind Donations

  1. Create an inventory and distribution process for the donation overflow storage units
    1. Assist Volunteer Manager with streamlining appropriate volunteers for shelter activities

Event Management

    1. Assist with logistics of organization’s signature fundraising event (tracking RSVP’s, mapping event layout, etc.)
    2. Follow up with event guests, table hosts, and sponsors with event updates and post-acknowledgement
    3. Manage social media in relation to event

Other Duties:

  • Perform other duties as required within scope of intern responsibilities
  • Participate in program meetings to determine new opportunities or needs for fundraising

Qualifications:

  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite applications
  • Experience with social media outlets (Facebook and Twitter)
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Willingness to create "outside the box" concepts for community awareness and fundraising
  • Passion for empowering men, women and children to end their homelessness
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as take lead on projects

Description

Central Arizona Shelter Services (CASS) was formed in 1984 in response to the need for an agency to operate an emergency shelter for the homeless in Central Arizona. It is the largest shelter and service center for homeless people in Arizona, serving men, women and families with children.

CASS currently serves over 400 homeless individuals downtown and 34 families with children at Vista Colina, a family shelter in North Phoenix. CASS serves up to 1,000 individuals each night and provides clients with hygiene supplies, shower and laundry facilities, and emergency clothing.
