It is Easier Than Ever to Become a Literacy Volunteer!

Becoming a volunteer tutor for Literacy Connections is a rewarding experience that has a direct and positive effect on our local communities. Now it is easier than ever to become a literacy volunteer tutor since the required training is online and can be adapted to fit most schedules.

Trained volunteer tutors in Columbia and Greene Counties will be matched with adult students in their local area. Being a literacy volunteer tutor requires a love of reading and writing, along with a bit of patience and the wiliness to share the gift of reading. In addition to the initial training, volunteer tutors have on-going support from Literacy Connections along their journey to help someone in need.

If you are interested in becoming a Literacy Volunteer Tutor, please attend one of our monthly Orientation Sessions. Our first Orientation Session is scheduled for Tuesday, January 24 th 10 am to 12 noon. At this session you will learn about the difference between Basic Reading and teaching English as a Second Language. You will also learn more about Literacy Connections, other volunteer opportunities, and receive your login information to begin the online tutor training module.

The Orientation is free and will take place in the Community Room of the Hudson Area Library, 51 North 5 th Street, Hudson, NY. You can sign up for the Tutor Training by e-mail to colgreene@literacyconnections.org or by calling 518-828-1792 ext 4.

Literacy Connections’ Columbia and Greene County Office is located within the office of the Hudson Area Library and regular hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays 10 am to 5 pm, and Wednesdays 1-8 pm. Literacy Connections North is partially funded by the Dyson Foundation United Way of Columbia & Greene Counties, the generosity of friends of literacy and individual community contributions.
