If you are looking for an opportunity to give back, but aren't sure how to fit volunteering into your schedule... if you want a way to help out, but transportation/distance is a concern... or if you know your class/church group/employees would enjoy connecting with people with disabilities who live in your community... inquire today about our Adopt-a-Home program.
Emmaus Homes is a faith based organization providing around the clock services to adults with developmental disabilities with the goal of helping them live their best lives possible in the community of their choice. We have been providing quality services to individuals in the St. Louis metro area for over 120 years, and want to see the next 120 years be even more fulfilling for our clients.
Emmaus cares about providing more than just basic, daily physical needs - we know that the "best life possible" includes making sure emotional, social, and spiritual needs are met as well. We are fortunate to have the support of many local churches, businesses, schools and families in achieving our mission.
The opportunities are endless and the time commitment is up to you!
Examples of how other volunteers have supported a home:
- In-home visits to play games or make crafts
- Helping clients plant and maintain a garden
- Committing to seasonal yardwork and snow removal
- Helping clients throw birthday parties and other special occasions
- Taking time to send cards, letters, and other correspondence
- Collecting needed items for the people in the home
- Inviting clients to attend church activities or meet in the community for an activity

Arising from faith in Jesus Christ, the mission of Emmaus Homes is to enhance the quality of life for adults of all beliefs who have cognitive, intellectual and other developmental disabilities.
Description
Since its inception in 1893, the primary purpose of Emmaus Homes has been to provide quality long-term supports for developmentally disabled adults when their own home and/or family situations are no longer a viable option. We provide residential services and habilitation services to people with developmental disabilities which includes autism, cerebral palsy, and some traumatic brain injuries.
Emmaus Homes addresses such needs as improving life skills, increasing decision-making abilities, expanding communications capacities and providing opportunities for recreational and educational activities in our cleint's communities.CAUSE AREAS
