Special Olympics Florida - Miami-Dade County will host the 2017 Annual Sponsor an Athlete 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, April 30th at Gulliver Preparatory!
Volunteers are needed to help with this exciting fundraising event to benefit over 4000 Special Olympics Athletes in Miami-Dade County.
The volunteer roles are listed below:
- Venue/Event Set-Up: help set-up the event & race course
- Runner Registration: help check-in all race participants
- Water Tables: distribute water to our participants during the race
- Corner Turners: direct runners/walkers through the course
- Olympic Village After Party: help distribute water & food, run different stations and more

The mission of Special Olympics Florida is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for all children and adults with intellectual disabilities who wish to participate, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
Description
The ultimate goal of Special Olympics is to help persons with intellectual disabilities participate as productive and respected members of society at large, by offering them a fair opportunity to develop and demonstrate their skills and talents through sports training and competition, and by increasing the public’s awareness of their capabilities and needs.
