CASA (Court Appointed Special Assistants) is a not-for-profit program whose specially trained volunteers are appointed by Family Court Judges to look out for the best interests of children placed into foster care due to abuse and neglect. In order to become a CASA, it does entail a 30 hour training (Tuesdays & Thursdays for 7 classes beginning 11/9 to 12/5 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.), followed by 10 hours of Court watching. At the completion of the training, you will be sworn in by the Orange County Family Court Judges and assigned your first case. We are the "eyes and ears of the Court" and "voice of the child" appointed to monitor court orders, the children and families and report to the Judge on their progress. We strive to gain permanency for these children, whether it is a return to their parent(s) or termination and adoption into a loving home of their own. Our volunteers are from all walks of life and are dedicated to reducing the trauma of a child in temporary foster care by facilitating the child's placement in a permanent home.
