Commit to 1 1/2 hours a week to work with an elementary student. You can work with them Monday through Thursday 1:00-2:30 on any of those days. You choose the day and a student will be chosen who needs to have that committed reading aide. Reading buddies help with reading basics, and playing reading/phonics games, etc. They help them during the Reading Fun Camp. This consistently helps the child learn skills and confidence in what they are doing and even in who they are - which better prepares them for life. We have seen kids advance entire grade levels because of having this intentional time.

Mission Statement

We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to the support of urban youth by providing them with opportunities to further their education, develop healthy relationships, and build life skills.

Description

Our main function is a full day school program, Jubilee Academy for youth who are most at-risk of failing or dropping out of school due to academic limitations, emotional trauma, or lack of family support. An After School Program and Summer Kids Club are also offered which include activities such as reading programs, science, and engineering activities, gardening, cooking, and other life skills classes. We partner with the Regional Food Bank and are a Kids Cafe host site, which allows to serve snacks and meals to students after school and during summer months. Additionally, we just became part of the RFB Backpack for kids program where we can send backpacks of food home with students over the weekends.
