Patient Visit

Our Lady of Peace Home, Hospice and Home Care (OLP) is a free-care hospice providing care to children and adults. OLP is in need of companion volunteers to visit with people at our residential hospice location in St. Paul, MN and/or community locations throughout the metro area. Volunteering hours are flexible and can fit with most schedules. This is a great opportunity for people over age 18.

Companion volunteers visit with patient(s). Visits may include conversations, listening to stories, life review, or words of wisdom, looking though photo albums, reading the newspaper or a favorite book, go for walks, create crafts, listening to music, etc.

Volunteers may be assigned to specific patient(s), or if volunteering at the residential hospice location, may be able to do companion "shifts" and visit patients room to room.

Our patients and their loved ones look forward to visiting with their volunteers. Companionship is an important part of the care we offer patients and is only possible because of volunteers like you. Thank you!

Mission Statement

As Volunteers at Our Lady of Peace we know that our contributions, no matter how humble, help bring comfort, peace and dignity to our patients' final days. That is why we make it our mission to use our gifts whether directly or indirectly to help meet the unique emotional, physical and spiritual needs of those in our care.

Description

Our mission is to provide expert, compassionate care to children and adults with terminal illnesses who have limited financial resources. The focus is on comfort care, which means being free of pain and other symptoms that interfere with quality of life.

Our dedicated Care Teams work closely with patients and their families to develop an individualized care plan. Because coordination of services is so important, each Care Team consists of a physician, nurse, social worker, pastoral care director, pharmacist and volunteers. Bringing these resources together under one roof increases communication, reduces response time, and keeps patients and families involved in care decisions.
