Description:

Serra Real Connections, located at Serra High School, is designed to provide individual and group services to students at Serra High School to prepare them for college or post-high-school success. The program provides diverse programs and services to significantly impact general climate and culture, parent engagement, developing student leaders, and strengthening social/emotional confidence for at-risk teens.

The purpose of this volunteer position is to tutor youth (ages 14-17) one on one or in small groups for the following subjects: Math (all levels), science, and/or Foreign Language (French or Spanish). The tutor does not need to be an expert in all of these subjects listed, but those are the subjects that our students need most support with.

Start Date - End Date:

Mid March to the end of the school year or beginning of June

Key Responsibilities:

~Help with homework and class work

~Provide academic support

~Be comfortable with one-on-one support

~Encourage attendance and positive behavior

~Serve as a role model to others

~Participate in the activities the children are doing

~Relate well to children and adults

~Willingness to share one’s time with others

~Ability to take direction and guidance from the Site Supervisor

~Ability to work with people from diverse cultures

Qualifications:

~Must be at least 18 years old

~Must be cleared through TB test, drug test, background check

~Will be asked to provide references

~Must have reliable transportation

Time Commitment:

Once a week

Preferably on Tuesdays and Thursdays

Willing to work with your schedule to find times to tutor

Training and Support:

Will receive support and supervision and guidance from Program Manager

Skills/Benefits:

~Will be invited to attend our annual Volunteer Recognition Lunch in June

~Gain knowledge and experience in the Education field and volunteering with a non-profit organization

~Become involved in the strengthening of your own neighborhoods and communities
