Work Parties occur the 2nd Saturday of each month, from 9 am to noon. We meet at a different location each month, and this month we'll be gathering at the trailhead located on S. 64th St. between Tacoma Mall Blvd. and S. Wapato St.
Activities include removing invasive species, picking up garbage, trail maintenance, and installing native plants. All ages are welcome, however a parental release form is required for children under the age of 18. If you contact me in advance I can email you the form to fill out in advance, but they will also be available on-site.
Just bring yourself and a positive attitude! If you have extra hand tools, such as rakes, clippers, or garden digging tools, feel free to bring them, however this isn't required as we'll provide everything you need. It is recommended that you bring your favorite work gloves and wear long sleeves and pants.
We look forward to seeing you there!

Description
The City’s Open Space Program is intended to conserve, activate, and manage open space and urban forest lands consistent with City policies and regulations. The City has segregated Open Space into two categories: Active and Passive. Active areas are those that are developed for and dedicated to community access and recreation. Passive open space properties comprise approximately 488 acres of City-owned forests, wetlands, streams, and habitat areas. Passive open space parcels will be managed and maintained in a manner that, in addition to other benefits, increases the stormwater benefit for public good through increased vegetation diversity, tree canopy cover, and overall absorption. The active management of these areas also results in the reduction of invasive vegetation, increase in tree health, and reduction of trash and pollution. The primary goal for passive open space properties is that they have a native species dominated, sustainable, and functioning forest.
