Changing Footprints is a Central Indiana based non-profit which collects, sorts, and donates shoes to local agencies such as Wheeler Mission, Dress For Success, Coburn Safe Place, Catholic Charities and others, to help those agencies help people in need. Every year, more than 25,000 pairs of shoes are collected by individuals, organizations, and stores in the Indianapolis/Greenwood area and taken to our sorting room at 9302 N. Meridian. Organizations including Scouts, fraternal organizations, church groups, and companies looking for service opportunities come and sort the shoes during 1 1/2 - 2 hour sessions. We make a real difference in the lives of volunteer sorters by giving them a HANDS ON opportunity to make a difference. By the end of a sorting session, each sorter will inspect, pair, and box 100 pairs of shoes or more - and those 100 pairs of shoes will end up right here in the Indianapolis area on the feet of those in need.
We know that church youth groups love to come and sort; we need one or more volunteers to reach out to them and ask if the youth groups if they would like to participate. It's really easy, can be done by phone (first step is to call the church to get a name), and will make a HUGE difference for both the volunteers and the recipients. And there's a great feeling of accomplishment when you learn that your efforts in arranging the sorting led to 10 people sorting 1000 pairs of shoes.
Does your group want to do a fun, hands-on activity on a weekend, during a holiday, or during the work/school day? Spend your time in 2017 making a real difference!
