The Durham Literacy Center is looking for tutors to help adult learners prepare for GED tests!

What would I teach? The GED includes four subject tests: math, science, social studies, and reading/writing. Volunteers can work with students in one or more of these subjects. A 2-hour training is provided, and you will get a chance to see the prep materials prior to deciding which subject or subjects you will teach. Program staff provide ongoing support as needed.

Who would I teach? Each tutor is matched with one adult learner who reads at or above a 9th grade level and wants to earn a GED diploma.

When would I teach?Tutors choose their own schedules during our classroom hours, which are Monday through Thursday between the hours of 9am-12pm and 4:30pm-8:30pm. We ask tutors to meet with their students twice a week for 90-minute lessons, but once-a-week (2-hour) schedules are also possible.
