MomsHouse was established August 2014 in tribute to Chalmetta Elaine Paulette Johnson, who died from accelerating Multiple Sclerosis. My mother’s courageous journey of maintaining her independence and dignity inspired the idea to create an organization to work collaboratively with seniors to do the same.
This project is a mobile crafting workshop. The program would be held on the premises at Fernwood Senior Apartments and taught by local crafters.
These traveling workshops will provide a safe social environment, increase physical and mental agility and be a stepping stone for disenfranchised or shut-in seniors to venture out of their comfort zone.
We are looking for one or multiple crafters for a monthly crafting workshop for seniors. The classes are held every 4th Thursday from 11 am to 1 pm. All donated time is tax deductible and perfect for resumes.

MomsHouse is a 501 (C) (3) non-profit dedicated to ensuring elders engage in active living lifestyles. We do this through seminars, events, and projects designed to towards stimulating active living.
Our mission is to enhance and improve the quality of life for the elder community by providing free or low-cost access to products, services, and information and to lessen the generational gap by fostering multigenerational relationships.
With such lofty goals, one may ask, what exactly does MomsHouse do? Basically, we do whatever is needed to empower seniors to live independent, happy lives.
- Seminars give answers and resources for everyday issues.
- Projects pinpoint areas of opportunity and address them,
- Day trips, Spa retreats and anything else you can think of
These are just some of the activities that will engage seniors mentally, spiritually and physically and we are just getting started.
MomsHouse was inspired by my mother, Chalmetta Elaine Paulette Johnson who I cared for in her last years as she experienced accelerating MS. It was a humbling experience that birthed my interest in and love of seniors. I work with seniors and issues regarding aging not only through MomsHouse but through my work with the AV Senior Center, Committee on Aging and Disabled, my co-chair position on the AV senior Network and my many community partners.
MomsHouse is here to support the senior community.
