Do you love music? Love working with older adults? Want to pair them together?
The JF&CS Music & Memory volunteer will meet with older adults and their care partners to conduct a music assessment and then work to create a personalized ITUNES playlist for the participant. The volunteer will then follow up with participants to refine playlist and evaluate their experience with Music & Memory.
Description of Music & Memory: We set up highly personalized music playlists, delivered on iPods to JF&CS clients that are experiencing symptoms due to mental or physical illness including: memory loss, agitation, pain or anxiety. Our clients and their "listening partners" are trained to use the music at times when they are most likely to experience therapeutic benefits. These musical favorites tap deep memories and can also restore a sense of peace and comfort. Using the music has been effective in bringing participants back to life, enabling them to feel like themselves again; to converse, socialize and stay present.

Mission Statement
Jewish Family & Children's Service (JF&CS) cares for individuals and families by providing exceptional human service and health care programs, guided by Jewish traditions of social responsibility, compassion, and respect for all members of the community.
Description
For almost 150 years, Jewish Family & Children's Service has been the safety net for over 30,000 individuals and families in 80 Greater Boston communities. Since its inception, the focus of JF&CS has been to support our friends and neighbors through difficult life transitions and times of personal crisis, offering programs and services for every stage of life.
JF&CS is especially responsive to the needs of vulnerable members of our community: newborns and their parents, individuals with development disabilities or persistent mental illness, families at risk and the frail elderly. What makes our continuum of programs unique is our steadfast dedication to caring not only for the physical and economic health of individuals and families, but also for their emotional and spiritual well-being.
JF&CS is always ready to respond, no matter how difficult the problem and regardless of a person's background or ability to pay.
