Our mission at the National MS Society is a collective of passionate individuals who want to do something about MS now - to move toward a world free of multiple sclerosis. MS stops people from moving. ... We are moving politicians and legislation to champion the needs of people with MS through activism, advocacy and influence. Key Chapter fundraising events held throughout the year include Bike MS, Walk MS, and DuskBuster.

Under the Development Department, the Graphic Design Intern will gain professional experience in production and development of collateral and promotional materials as they learn about corporate brand guidelines and build a portfolio. This internship will support a wide range of initiatives throughout the Chapter, so the applicant must be an upbeat self-starter, organized and enjoy a fast-paced work environment.


  • Manage design projects from concept development to final approval
  • Update event marketing and promotional materials (posters, trading cards, ads, etc.)
  • Create supplemental event marketing materials (postcards, t-shirts, jerseys, buttons, etc.)
  • Support design needs for year-end Chapter projects (annual report, brochure, etc.)
  • Design unique graphics for use in print, web and email
  • Other design and production projects as needed


  • Proficient with Adobe CS products (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)*
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (especially Word, Outlook and Excel)
  • Ability to work well independently, incorporate suggestions and meet deadlines
  • Desire to approach challenges strategically and creatively
  • Understanding and usage of social media and the Internet
  • Strong writing skills and attention to detail
  • Skilled at collaborating cross-functionally

  • Experience working within a nationally recognized brand framework

  • Learn and contribute in a local non-profit environment with a national reach


  • Northern California Volunteer Orientation
  • Online training courses (as relevant to internship)
  • Individual training with supervisor for special projects
    • Ongoing evaluation / feedback provided throughout internship


  • Six month minimum - longer preferred
    • 10-15 hours/week, flexible scheduling based on school load
