ORGANIZATION: New York Public Library

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.
  • 8 people are interested

The New York Public Library is in need of enthusiastic, friendly volunteers to staff library card sign-up tables during the period from January 8th through March3rd.

Volunteers will ideally work three, 2-3 hour shifts over the course of the month, providing information on and answering questions about library cards, encouraging people to sign up, and handling their paperwork. Training will be provided and schedules are flexible. There will be day, evening and weekend opportunities. The Library is looking to staff tables at events and in high-traffic areas near four specific branches: Bronx Library Center and Jerome Park in the Bronx, and New Amsterdam and Kips Bay in Manhattan. All are near public transportation.

Public libraries are great equalizers, offering opportunity, information, and education to all New Yorkers. This campaign aims to raise awareness of the free programs and services that libraries provide, and encourage as many New Yorkers as possible to get cards and access the full range of those services.
