Beaver Hangouts is currently looking for OSU student volunteers to serve as Coaches for the 2016-2017 academic school year!
Beaver Hangouts strives to provide underserved youth in Oregon, particularly students of color, students in rural communities, and potentially first generation college students an equitable opportunity to pursue post-secondary education.
As a coach, you will video chat with youth in K-12 or community college classes, afterschool programs, or non-profit organizations for one hour every other week throughout the school year. Topics covered during coaching sessions include the day in the life of a college student, differences between community college and universities, the importance of support systems, career goals and interests, time management and goal setting skills, the first year experience, ways to pay for college, a college application guide, campus resources, and reading a financial aid award letter. Using provided lesson plans as a guide, OSU students are encouraged to use their personal experiences and knowledge to disseminate the information and create a personal connection with the youth. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience interacting with, and educating youth! It is a direct and tangible way to make change in your community! This is a great resume builder!
