The MAVEN (Medical Alumni Volunteer Expert Network) Project is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Its mission is to improve access to quality health care for underserved populations by creating a corps of experienced physician volunteers equipped with cutting edge telehealth technology to enable remote patient consultations. The MAVEN Project links its physician volunteers with community clinics and other organizations in need of their expertise.
The MAVEN Project is a top notch example of solving the problem of how to improve patient access to quality healthcare, including specialties. Physician volunteers can participate at the pace and in program they desire, whether it be 'lunch and learn’ sessions for clinic staff in areas of the volunteer’s expertise, mentoring clinic staff, or patient care taking as little as 4 hours/month for 6 months. A little time commitment with a very big impact.
Currently, The MAVEN Project is working with clinics in California and Massachusetts and plans to expand into Florida. There is a continual need for specialists and primary care physicians with an active license in the above mentions states willing to volunteer the minimum 4 hours per month for 6 months. The MAVEN Project team handles onboarding and provides malpractice coverage.

Mission Statement
We improve access to healthcare for underserved populations by linking our corps of expert volunteer physicians to clinics and organizations in need.
Description
Rural and urban community health clinics are the core source of care for uninsured and underinsured individuals, Medicaid recipients, and people of all ages. Patients often suffer from poorly-treated chronic illnesses, contributing to avoidable mortality, morbidity, and health care costs.
Patients need physician specialists -- but clinics are often understaffed. Moreover, it's predicted that the United States will be short 130,000 physicians by 2025.
The MAVEN Project is a nonprofit organization that improves access to quality healthcare for underserved populations by linking its corps of expert volunteer physicians to clinics and organizations in need. It recruits retired, semi-retired, and other interested physicians through medical school alumni associations to volunteer their expertise, utilizing telehealth technology to link volunteers to clinics and community health centers.
