Summary The World Affairs Council is seeking a volunteer on a part-time basis to support the Global Classroom’s Culture Box Program*. This volunteer position is ideal for someone with a flexible schedule looking for a long-term volunteer commitment, such as a retired K-12 teacher. *The Culture Boxes, are an extensive collection of materials representing over 100 counties of the world. They are filled with hands-on, authentic treasures and lessons about the art, culture and daily life of people from every continent. A typical box or set of boxes contains activities, books, lesson plans, maps, posters and hands-on items in the following categories: arts & crafts, dance & music, folktales, language, plants & animals, shelter, festivals & food, family, toys & games and more. For more information on the Global Classroom please see here: http://www.worldoregon.org/education Primary Responsibilities * Inventorying Culture Boxes at the World Affairs Council office in preparation for loan to K-12 Schools throughout the Portland Metropolitan Area and beyond during the school year. Qualifications Preference is given to persons have worked in the areas of K-12 Education, with a special interest in global and multi-cultural education, or a related field. * Good editing and writing skills. * Strong interpersonal skills. * Interest in international affairs and education. * Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel * Positive attitude, flexibility, sense of humor. Time Commitment The Council would like to have a time commitment of 3 - 6 hours a week over a period of six months or more. The days and hours will be arranged in coordination with the hours of the Global Classroom Manager. The Council is open Monday - Friday from 9am to 5pm. Compensation All World Affairs Council volunteer positions are unpaid. Volunteers are welcome to attend monthly lectures and forums sponsored by the Council.
