ORGANIZATION

Partnerships for Trauma Recovery (PTR) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to healing the psychological and psychosocial impacts of trauma among international survivors of human rights abuses and forced displacement resulting from war, torture, gender-based, criminal and other interpersonal violence, and persecution related to identity and beliefs. At our Mosaic Healing Center in Berkeley, California, we:

(a) Provide globally culturally and contextually responsive, trauma-informed and linguistically accessible psychological and psychosocial care for asylum seekers and refugees from around the world, (b) Expand multidisciplinary clinical capacity to serve highly diverse international populations through an in-depth yearlong clinical training program, (c) Conduct community outreach, support and training to address the needs of forcibly displaced immigrants and newcomers, and (d) Advocate for policies to prevent trauma and re-traumatization among international survivors of human rights abuses and forced displacement.

POSITION OVERVIEW

This is an opportunity to join a dynamic nonprofit organization working at the juncture of global mental health and human rights. Reporting to, and working in close collaboration with the Program Manager, the Volunteer Administrative Assistant will support the core operations of the organization at the Mosaic Healing Center. The position requires initiative, flexibility, resourcefulness and a passion for promoting human rights and psychosocial wellbeing. This position may have the opportunity to grow into a paid part-time position with the organization. Due to public health & safety considerations during the Covid-19 pandemic, PTR is operating remotely for the remainder of 2020.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities of the Volunteer Administrative Assistant will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Contribute to the creation of a safe environment for welcoming clients and supporting trainees, clinicians and interpreters with warmth, openness & sensitivity.
  • Developing, improving, expanding, and organizing internal tracking systems to enhance the office efficiency.
  • Maintain records, documentation, and files.
  • Assist Program Manager in maintaining compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Assist Program Manager with outreach events, which may include attending partner meetings, tabling at outreach events, relaying organizational development to the community, etc.
  • Organize office celebrations.
  • Update and organize marketing material for outreach events, site visits, and potential partners; maintain inventory of marketing materials.
  • Troubleshoot technical and electronic issues as they arise.
  • Depending on interests and qualifications, this role could include assisting the Program Manager with communications, such as social media, contributing to PTR’s newsletter, marketing materials, etc.
  • Additional duties as assigned by Program Manager to assist with overall improvement of office functioning (i.e. maintaining inventory of office supplies, data entry, sending mail, etc.).

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current student or recent graduate in public health, international development, nonprofit management or relevant field
  • Experience in a nonprofit setting
  • Demonstrated interest in global human rights, public health, mental health and/or social justice
  • High attention to detail and organization
  • Discretion and sensitivity to working with diverse populations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office & Google Suite
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal & written communication skills
  • Flexibility & ability to adapt to developing program needs & requirements
  • Maturity, initiative, resourcefulness & ability to creatively problem-solve
  • Experience working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams
  • Desired: Fluency in one or more languages in addition to English, with Spanish strongly preferred
