HandsOn Suburban Chicago (HOSC) has teamed up with Euclid Elementary School to support Lunch Buddies--an in-school mentoring program benefitting the school's disadvantaged youth. Research has proven that children who have one caring adult in their lives achieve more than those who do not. We therefore need YOU to offer these children the opportunity to form stable, trusting relationships with dedicated community members.
Under the supervision of the school's social worker, volunteers will work one on one with students, getting to know them by playing games and doing crafts and other activities. Applicants must be willing to undergo a background check. Mentors must be 18 or over and able to commit to mentoring one day per week for at least one school year. The program takes place in 50 min. chunks on Mondays through Fridays from 10:45 am to 1:25 pm. Choose and commit to one day per week.
Mentoring is a fun and rewarding experience. The bond that mentors form with their students boosts the self-confidence of all involved and offers volunteers an incredible sense of satisfaction in knowing their contributions have positively impacted their mentees.
