Lunch Buddies Virtual Elementary School Tutor

Apply today to volunteer during the 2022-2023 school year, which starts in October: https://www.handsonsuburbanchicago.org/lunch-buddies

Who: HandsOn Suburban Chicago needs caring and reliable community members like you to provide homework help to high-needs students in grades 4-6!

What: Lunch Buddies strengthens the foundational academic skills of students in need through volunteer-based tutoring. Under the direction of program staff, volunteer mentors provide homework help, practice math skills, and/or develop literacy skills by reading with groups of 1-3 students from Jane Addams Elementary School in Palatine, IL and Rupley Elementary School in Elk Grove Village, IL.

Where and When: Lunch Buddies will start in early October and go through mid-May. Volunteer mentors are needed for one hour between 11 am and 1 pm in person on Mondays or virtually on Tuesdays and Thursdays (dates and times are subject to change). Choose and commit to one day per week.

Virtual volunteers must have reliable access to both broadband internet and a computer with a camera to be able to participate. Proficiency in Google products and the ability to navigate multiple windows and browser tabs are recommended.

Why: Tutoring is a fun and rewarding experience. In addition to the satisfaction that comes with positively impacting those in need, volunteering in schools is an ideal way to meet new people, enhance your resume, and learn new skills. Tutoring at Lunch Buddies is also a great way for college and graduate students to earn field hours.

Please note that the application process requires a reference check and criminal background check. Training is provided and consists of a self-guided online course with a graded final assessment.
