Who: HandsOn Suburban Chicago needs caring and reliable community members like you to help high-needs students get on track to graduate! Because Lunch Buddies will take place online during fall 2020, volunteers must be 18 or older and have reliable access to broadband internet and a computer with a camera to be able to participate. Proficiency in Google products is a plus!
What: Throughout the pandemic, Lunch Buddies at Jane Addams Elementary School will help students leverage their internal strengths to cope with a new sense of normal by connecting them with mentors in a secure virtual learning environment. Through video conferencing and under the direction of program staff, volunteer mentors will foster socialization among a small group of students and facilitate structured social and emotional learning activities.
Where and When: Lunch Buddies will start in early October and go through mid-December. Volunteer mentors are needed on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. Choose and commit to one day per week. Mandatory orientation/training is TBD in September. Volunteers must be willing to undergo a background check.
Why: Mentoring is a fun and rewarding experience. In addition to the satisfaction that comes with positively impacting those in need, volunteering in schools is an ideal way to meet new people, enhance your resume, and learn new skills. Mentoring at Lunch Buddies is also a great way for college and graduate students to earn field hours.
