Seasoned Business Mentors Needed to Help Advise Workforce Development Professionals

Purpose: Cornerstone Montgomery advocates, assists, and supports Montgomery County community members surviving mental health disorders to live a fulfilling life of their choosing. Our Vocational Department is currently recruiting for our Business Mentor Program. Cornerstone Montgomery Business Mentors coach Cornerstone Montgomery Supported Employment Specialists (Mentees) in best practices in leveraging the Montgomery County business community, in order to help them connect local job seekers with employers. Using their network, Business Mentors collaborate with Mentees to identify potential opportunities in the community, assist with branding and messaging of potential partnership pitches, and all other aspects of business partnership development coaching.

Location:

The location for these sessions is flexible; many mentors and mentees choose to meet either at one of the three Cornerstone Montgomery HUB locations (Silver Spring, MD, North Bethesda, MD, or Rockville, MD) or in the community at a coffee shop, at the mentor’s office, etc.

Key Responsibilities:

• Present a unique perspective about the sectors of the Montgomery County business community
• Provide coaching on how to form business partnerships
• Meet with Cornerstone Montgomery clients (job seekers) and provide feedback about presentation skills in professional settings (sometimes to tailored industries)
• Brainstorm potential industries related to job seeker interests
• Connect mentees with business contacts in identified industries
• Teach contact management skills for follow up

Reports to: Workforce Development Specialist and Volunteer Maryland Coordinator

Time Commitment: (1) 2 hour training and orientation session. Coaching appointments would be 1 time a month for approximately 1.5 hours long

Qualifications: Knowledge/experience in business development, relationship development and/or sales, Knowledge and/or experience with the business community in Montgomery County, and an ability to fulfill a minimum of 6 month term.

Required Experience: 5+ years with business partnerships/development/relationships in Montgomery County, MD
