Please understand that these positions earn only $11,880 a year (which is about $990 a month before tax). You are also responsible for finding and paying for your own housing, health insurance, and transportation to campus among other living expenses. These positions must be filled by January 18, 2017, so we want applications by December 31, 2016.

Serve with Arkansas’sonly licensed child development center and youth program specifically targeted to homeless and near-homeless families. As Family Engagement VISTA, you will enhance our family engagement opportunities and communications for the Little Learners Child Development Center and the Our Club afterschool and out-of-school-time program. You will reach out to the community to build partnerships focused on the two-generation approach, create opportunities for parents/guardians to volunteer, develop data tracking systems, assess and improve communication systems with families, and share new family engagement research and strategies through training plans, and assist with Community Council relations. You will also actively support the procurement and analysis of feedback from families on our current programs, systems, and practices.

Grow the Heart of Our House, a committed arm of volunteers supporting homeless and near-homeless families and individuals, through donor outreach, donor correspondence, and event coordination. As the Donor Liaison VISTA, you will serve as the liaison for Our House and the Heart of Our House members. You will plan and execute three membership drives, strategize goals and outcomes, recruit leadership positions within the Heart of Our House, and prepare and evaluate orientation materials for new leaders and members. As Donor Liaison VISTA, you will also build the capacity of Our House to effectively identify, track, and liaise with current, former, and potential donors through. You will develop a social media map, create promotional materials, maintain donor contact databases, and assist in asks and donor recognition. Through your efforts, the Heart of Our House and other donors will become more deeply engaged in a breadth of involvement with the organization to sustain our programming.

Build the social enterprise of Our House to support programming for homeless and near-homeless families and individuals. Through your efforts as the Social Enterprise VISTA, the From Our House to Yours Resale Store will flourish with new partnerships, volunteers, materials, and systems. You will assess volunteer needs, coordinate and supervise volunteer projects, administer recruitment and onboarding, research best practices, and regularly evaluate and update volunteer practices (including orientation, tracking, and retention). You will manage communication systems, create materials, and develop and execute targeted communication plans with The Heart of Our House support group, customers, and volunteers. You will create systems to organize and improve "Donation Center" processes, maintain the upkeep of the "Donation Center", and coordinate donation procurement.

Build capacity at Our House to identify and competitively pursue grant opportunities and comply with grant requirements. As the Grants Support VISTA, you will streamline the grant process from research and writing to tracking, reporting, and compliance. You will research and report on promising funding sources, maintain detailed records of funding resources in a new custom-built database, and assist in the development of strong applications. You will provide support to the development team in designing systems and organization-wide standards for recording, tracking, analyzing, and reporting performance data as well as for streamlining the grant application and reporting process. You will create and implement new onboarding content to train new team members and build systems for an "internal audit". As Grants Support VISTA, you will build Our House’s capacity to effectively manage and administer grant funding to better serve homeless and near-homeless families and individuals.

Break the cyclical relationship of poverty and health with homeless and near-homeless families and individuals at Our House. As the Health and Wellness VISTA, you will expand health and wellness programming across all programs for all clients and incorporate the 8 Dimensions of Wellness into curriculum and program evaluation. You will coordinate the annual Health and Wellness Day, generate resources for meal servers to provide healthy meals to families, lead the process to create a sustainable gardening program, and pilot various food-related programs. Remove health barriers to empower our clients to succeed in the workplace, in school, and in life.

Compensation

This is a full-time national service position that provides a living allowance of $11,880 over the course of one year, plus a $5,815 education award at the end of a successful one-year term of service. Health insurance is not available, but some health coverage is available to VISTA Members to help with the cost of co-pays and other medical expenses. Childcare assistance and relocation assistance are available to VISTA Members who qualify. Life insurance and 1 year of non-competitive eligibility are also available. Professional development training opportunities are offered and paid for by Our House. You are responsible for your own housing and other living expenses.

Our House empowers homeless and near-homeless families and individuals to succeed in the workforce, in school, and in life through hard work, wise decision-making, and active participation in the community.

Description

Our House operates an 80-bed shelter, a 39-bed family housing program (18 family rooms), an education and job training center, a licensed child development center, and a feeding program that serves over 45,000 meals per year. Our House also offers additional free services that help people transform their lives. Services include one-on-one case management, after school and summer programs, parenting classes and job search assistance. Our House programs help people become successful members of the workforce, the community, and their own families.
